Question:What is an NVQ?
Answer:The NVQ is a work-based qualification. Each NVQ benchmarks the skills you need to do your job effectively.
  
Question:How many units are there?
Answer:There is no set number of units for an NVQ. All NVQs have mandatory units and some also have optional units.
  
Question:How long does it take to do one?
Answer:There is no strict time limit for doing an NVQ. You can take as little or as much time as you like, depending on how it fits in with the work that you’re doing. You can even take a small number of units – you don’t have to take the whole qualification.
  
Question:Can I study part time?
Answer:NVQs don’t have any special methods of delivery, so you can study it in the way that suits you and your employer best.
  
Question:Where can I study for an NVQ?
Answer:NVQs are normally delivered in the workplace, so check with your Human Resources department to see what they can offer you. It is possible to study for an NVQ at a college while not working. In this case, you would be expected to show proof of previous work that would meet the standards required. This is known as Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL).
  
Question:What can I do after I finish an NVQ?
Answer:When you finish your NVQ you have proved your ability to carry out the kind of task that you’re doing at work. You may have enhanced promotion prospects as a result. You could also go further up the NVQ ladder, provided that your job reflected the tasks contained in the qualification.
  
Question:Who normally takes an NVQ?
Answer:NVQs are open to anyone. There are no entry requirements, no special methods of delivery, no age limits and no time constraints. There are NVQs that suit first-jobbers or senior managers.
